Routine maintenance and stain protection
Like any kind of carpet, it is important to vacuum frieze flooring thoroughly and frequently. You don’t want foot traffic to push the dirt into the carpet below the surface, causing heavy soiling. Depending on how much the room is used, vacuuming twice a week is usually good. However, high traffic areas may need to be vacuumed daily.
When vacuuming frieze flooring, manufacturers recommend using a suction-only vacuum (without a rotating brush) to keep it looking its best. If you have ever vacuumed up the fringe on an area rug, then you are probably familiar with the potential damage that can occur when something gets tangled in the rotating brush. While frieze is a durable carpet, the rotating brush can cause damage and excessive wear. You want the rotating brush to barely touch the top tips of your carpet.
Excellent stain protection is also necessary for this flooring style and will help keep it looking new for as long as possible. Because the fibers in frieze carpet are long and lay sideways, spills can spread out. High quality stain protection helps contain spills, giving you enough time to clean up before they cause permanent damage to your flooring.
Even though the speckled appearance that is often seen on frieze carpets hides dirt well, you will still need to have it professionally cleaned periodically. Your carpet warranty may specify a minimum amount and type of professional cleaning necessary to keep your warranty valid. If so, you will want to comply with those recommendations.
Having your carpet professionally cleaned once a year is a common recommendation, whether your carpet is under warranty or not. Twice a year is probably necessary if your household has a large family, small children or pets.
