Bathroom tile ideas
Modern bathrooms can have a spa-like look and feel without changing everything. Updating your tiles can provide a spectacular bathroom and give you the relaxing atmosphere you desire. The different styles, color combinations and finishes that are available in bathroom tile gives you unlimited choices. Tile works great as a tub surround, shower, backsplash, floor, even counter tops. Tiled surfaces are more easily cleaned and last longer than many other options. Bathroom tile can take heat well and actually help keep bathrooms cooler.
Choosing the type of tile and finish
It is important to choose non-slippery tiles for the floors for obvious reasons. Highly textured or glossy tiles can be used on walls, counter tops or as accents. You can give your bathroom a rustic look by opting for ceramic tiles or textured glass tiles.
A current trend in bathroom tile is to use large tiles, in bright colors, like red, yellow and purple mixed with subtle contrasting colors. However, if your bathroom is small and compact, it is best to opt for light or neutral colored bathroom tiles. This will create an illusion of space and make your bathroom look bigger and brighter. Mosaic bathroom tiles with different color combinations can be used for design flair as well. For example, if you want a more rustic look, go for nature-inspired colors, such as green, gold and brown.
Laying the tiles
Usually, bathroom tiles are laid horizontally, but a diamond design can help your bathroom look unique and customized. For smaller bathrooms, try to lay tiles diagonally to give your bathroom a more spacious look. You can also try a checkerboard effect by using two contrasting colors.
Always choose a darker shade of bathroom tile for the borders of the room to demarcate the edges. However, this option is best for large bathrooms and should not be considered for small and cramped bathrooms. For smaller bathrooms, create a pattern or design in the center of the room or on the walls with contrasting bathroom tiles.
